Only Tuesday morning...

*Bleck*

Interesting article today. On the BBC website. I find these sort of articles interesting in large part because years ago I went to a Metro Bible Study about friendship where the visiting Pastor brokedown what "true friendship" should be measured by... and most people's comments on the article match what he was saying.

Speaking of... I learned some thing new about the French habit of kissing on the cheek as a greeting. One kiss, you don't know the person at all or well or much of anything in your social circle. Two kisses, one on each cheek, is a friend but not a close inner circle friend... close acquaintance I guess. Three kisses, alternating cheek, is a very close friend or for family.

complicated. but very interesting. like bowing in Asian cultures, the lower the bow etc. When do you know to add an additional kiss? What if you do and the other person doesn't want to? hahahaha! oh the stress of such greetings...

Just hug it out... HAHAHAHA! Big hug and no worries.

Or my fav, the hug & kiss episode of Seinfeld where he declares no more kissing anyone Hello. Too funny! the little old ladies are not happy!

JP leaves this afternoon for a work Fishing trip. Can you say boondogel?! sheesh. So much for the appearance of silly spending. He'll leave at noon today to head to Aranses Pass (no idea how you spell it) and they'll go out early Wednesday morning and spend the whole day. Won't get back until Thursday lunch time.

sheesh.

Nothing exciting going on today... just trying to make it through to the weekend as usual these days.

But I strained a muscle in my neck yesterday during my workout. Owie. I've done worse, so it's more of a annoyance than anything. I'm really trying to get back in the full workout healthy eating swing.

Real problems and such...

Found out as soon as I got in that accounting go hit yesterday with layoffs. I've heard a few names and I'm surprised by some of them, others I don't know at all.

Their boss told them flat out that if things don't turn around (either the price of crude goes up or the cost to drill goes down) then we'll be going through another round in min-summer.

I sort of already knew that but to have someone in mid-management confirm it is scary.

Other stuff came up yesterday but in comparisson it's just stupid, trival and not worth even thinking twice about. yeesh.

I'm off tomorrow and I've got a bunch of errands to run. Lots I want to get done and since JP is going to work late and then has a Rodeo shift I'd just rather get it all done on Friday so we'll have Saturday.

No plans for Saturday. JP was trying to get a group of people to go out to dinner, but it doesn't look like it's happening.

Well, better get to workin'...

Long time away...

I haven't written anything in some time. Not that stuff hasn't been happening, but I just couldn't deal with writing it out.

There have been no more layoffs since that last go round. I don't know if they're fully over, or just over for now. I can't worry about. All I can do it try and save as much money as possible just in case.

Work is still stressful, but not in that sense of I'll never ever in a million days get all of this done.... and that co-worker has stopped with the evil eye so either she's just over it, or realizes how freakin' busy that county was/is.

In trying to make everyone else happy you only accomplish making yourself miserable.

Rodeo time starts up again this Friday. JP has the Cook-Off Friday night. They're all required to work that night. I might see if Olga wants to do anything. Just trying to keep her out of the house and from getting to down.

And it's another busy day since it's the end of the month and the accountants are going NUTS! Plus JIB has a new guy who wants everything spoonfeed. Must be nice.

So it goes... AGAIN!

Layoffs... just down the hallway from me.

No idea what departments.

I'm so over the not knowing, that I don't care at this point.

Get it on, get it over with.

I'm guessing that we're okay since we haven't been called out... but the day is still young.

*sigh*

Rodeo time begins...

Tonight is the kick off dinner for the Rodeo. It's usually not so good brisket and the usual sides... I'm planning on a big lunch and just skipping the dinner. =) The guys JP works the rodeo with are all pretty nice and this is the only time of year I see them. One of the newer girls is more than a tad crazy, but I just nod and try not to respond to her crazy girl ways.

Last night I went to see The Reader. As always Kate Winslet is amazing to watch on screen. I'm sort of refusing to see Revolutionary Road for a variety of subject reasons. Primarily because after I told JP what the movie was about (people dissatisfied with their lives but unable/willing to change) his response was a confused, "So what?! who's life ever turns out how they thought? That's not the point?!" I had to laugh and give him a hug... yep that's why I picked him. But now I can't even see the preview without laughing a bit.

Yesterday afternoon this guy, whose name I never caught, told me he was going to have me do this huge reviewing project I think for Finance. He need to turn his findings over by the 11th so wanted me to get him everything by Monday.

Do you think he's set the file yet? Of course not. He quoted "2700" line entries to review... and he doesn't think he needs to send it quickly?! I'm leaving here at 3:30 no matter what, as my life is outside the office not the job. Geez!

Oh wow, there is a crazy contentious interview going on NPR... imagine that it's about the economy... don't know which Senator is being interviewed... missed that part.

Well, I believe today i'm going to clean up and reorgainze my office. I've got a couple of accounting issues and then a property correction to take care of but the clutter must go first!

Valentine's Day... meh.

Valentine's Day is not a big day for us...

JP lost his father on Valentine's Day and my history with the day is just the usual getting dumped in college on V-Day type dealings. Even in my twenties the first time I was dating a guy and we were still seeing each other come Valentine's Day... I was historically sick. I had bronchitius and sinusitus at the same time (for the first time) and was pretty delirious during that day.

Really, even when I started dating JP I wasn't thrilled about celebrating the day and when he told me why he's not keen on it well... the "holiday" was flattened even more.

Only three awesome things can be said about the day for me:

1) It's my niece's birthday.
2) The memory of those huge, bright pink & glittery cards my Dad gave me up until my first Valentine's day dating JP. I wish I saved more of them.
3) Plus this hilarious card my Mom gave me one year after I was stood up by a guy... which was just prior to me meeting JP (and really if he hadn't of stood me up I wouldn't have been all, "Boys suck I don't need 'em I'm gonna start going to the coffee shop on my own who needs a partner to do anything kick.") But it was a hilarious card with a puffed out ham-ham holding a little heart.

Pretty much the rest is annoying. Restaurant's triple their prices and/or limit their menu. Even the drafthouse is doing something weird... hopefully it's just with the chickflick movies their showing and not all of them... JP's willing, finally to go see The International with me. Since it stars my movie-boyfriend he wasn't too keen.

Nothing terribly exciting going on. going to sushi HH today which is always fun. Need a bit of Hot Geisha after this week. HA! I think we're trying a Crawfish HH on President's Day. Yeah... my happy hours are about food. D'oh!

"I've got soul but I'm not a soldier..."

Been a while... didn't want to keep the worrying about the layoffs going on and surprise surprise I don't have much else going on in my life. Sad, no?

Anyway... Crossed another Oscar movie off my list, went to see The Wrestler on Friday. Excellent movie. It's a sober film but not a total downer. Really brings home how hard change is, and people in your life letting you change. I'm going to see The Reader on Thursday and I'm not sure if I'll get to catch Doubt. So far though... I really think Slumdog should win best picture.

Monday night was The Killers concert. Excellent show. The lead singer doesn't have any banter and he even made a comment about it. But the music was awesome. Even the opening group was good. I booked us a room at Club Quarters, smallest hotel room ever! so we didn't have to waste an hour driving all the way back to Katy with work in the morning. Learned how great that is after Coldplay. It was in walking distance so even better. Will totally do that again. Strange little hotel but clean and comfortable so you can't ask for more.

Yesterday I was pretty tired by the end of the day so I took it easy. Means tonights workout is gonna hurt. I got the two new Jillian Michael's DVDs. The workouts are nearly a full hour so I'm gonna probably have to mix it up with my Shredd DVD for the days I don't have the time.

Sleepy... it was super difficult to get out of bed this morning. Even the girls wouldn't wake up.

Long week... and Rodeo Kick-off dinner is Friday. oh fun.
